If you were to buy the parts to build yourself:
Motherboard
Processor (CPU - Intel, AMD .....)
Memory
Sound Card if not built in to motherboard
Graphics Card if not built in to Motherboard
CPU Cooling Fan
Case with Suitable power supply
Hard Disk
Keyboard
Mouse
Monitor
Operating System
This can all be put together in less than one hour (hardest part I find is pushing the CPU into the Motherboard)
Hope I didn't forget anything and this helps.

Decide first on form factor for the case... with power supply.
Motherboard to fit case
CPU - heatsink/fan
Memory (RAM)
Optical drive ( CD/DVD Combo drive or superdrive )
Hard disk
Video/Audio card (if needed)
Optional ( floppy drive, tape drive (for back up) )
