As a parent, it seems like society is placing far too much emphasis on external sexiness instead of the inner qualities.
Why is it so important to be hot?

I guess it's like being popular. Some girls have nothing else going for them. I think the parents should step in and do something about teaching them values, empathy, and good skills for their future. Being hot is going to get old and they better have something to fall back on.

one reason is all that advertising and whats on TV but for the most part those follow the genetic make up of man kind. Men are programmed to be attracted to the young as a matter of survival of the species. Think about it why else would old men like young girls, they are in many ways inferior but they can produce young. If an older man who hassurvived because he is fit mates a young women then superior off spring should logically be the result.

the media influences and peer preassure. and paris hilton.
it is important to be hot because they hope they will be spotted on the street by some talent agency..and go to hollywood.... then they will become rich and famous like the celebrities that they admired. thus they don;t eat and stay skinny to be sexy and hot..
by having the fame n fortune meaning that they are successful.. then material things come easily.

Women are not competitive about much else. Not truly, they are not. We teach that competitiveness secures our future.
Your question points to the one quality that is unmanly for men or boys to excel at in a preoccupied way. Call it the *feminine*-aggression.

its got a lot to do with the media. just keep teaching your kids that whats on the outside isnt as important as whats on the inside.

its only human. Men look at women as sexual objects (some, respected men don't) and women natually want to look good for a this person.
