Mine is The Charm School by Nelson DeMille. A great spy book! What would you say is the best? Please, no Bible, or Koran or the like because I'm not religious at all.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I read it a few weeks ago and it drew me in unlike any other book I have ever read. Some critisize the book for being melodramatic, and trying to entice emotion from the reader. If this book doesn't make you cry or at least feel something inside you I can only feel sorry for you. The book doesn't give the reader what they want, and it hurts. Yet in the end we don't always get what we want. I have been talking to people about this book ever since I finished it. If you read it, tell me how you felt about it. Sorry I rambled on for so long. I should be in bed, but my heart is in a bad place right now. Answering this question actually helped me feel better.

I've got heaps of favorite books, but two that immediately come to mind are Good Omens (by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett) and Catcher in the Rye (by J.D. Salinger).

Good Omens is a really funny book about the end of the world and an angel and devil who try to keep it from happening. I enjoy sci-fi British comedy. Gaiman's works are full of mythology and dark humour, while Pratchett's writings make for easier reads. The mix they create in this book is nicely balanced.

Catcher in the Rye is really something else. It's about a troubled teen and how he grows up, yet at the same time how he doesn't grow up. I could really related to what the Holden, the main character, was talking about. The tone is extremely conversational, and the writer uses quite a number of "offensive language." Catcher in the Rye was the first book of its kind that I have read. I'm not sure if I've read anything like it, actually. It may sound like an adolescent ranting at first, but it's a really good book that you can dissect and think about.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

You can read it in a couple of hours and it makes you think about the depth of people's characters and what is important to those around you.

I also read Angels and Demons while I was in Rome and thought it was pretty cool that I could go to the sites mentioned in the book and confirm the existence of what I was reading. Made the book take on a whole other level.

It is "The Silence of the Lambs"

Why?

I wanna be that girl called Starling. Is it really
created by A MAN... ?!? Because it is so real.
I mean he knows all about women and
how a young woman is "ticking".

This man ---- Thomas Harris --- is really a genius.
May be the greatest author of America ever.
And I do read a lot. I also like T.C. Boyle ----
but Harris beats them all... cannot stop reading his
"Hannibal"-trilogy... Jesus Christ !!!

The last great book I read was White Massai (Corinne Hoffmann) and it was stunning. About a German woman who married a Massai and lived with him in the wilderness of Kenya.

mmm. just for fun fiction would have to be "the winner" by David Baldacci. clasic would be either "1984" by George Orwell (i see someone already chose that) or "Count of Monte Cristo" by... actually, not quite sure, but its famous. love and revenge, what can be better? favorite political book is "how to talk to a liberal if you must" by Ann Coulter. a good read for republicans, a frustrating one for Democrats!

My favourite book is william Faulkner's masterpiece "The sound and Fury" because it's a grat picture of human life and behavior it's as honest about we as human biengs as a mirror is. our love, hatred, jealousy, kindness and every thing else is shown through the eyes of an idiot who sees it all as simply sound and fury....
Besides it's greatness all over.the language, the style and the characterisation are all wonderful.
