Now, I just watched E.T once again with my girlfriend since she hadn't ever seen it, I was like 8 when I last watched it and as everyone else knows when you watch a movie when you are older you understand more things......But is it just me or is the man at the end of the movie the man who tells Elliott "He came to me too." Is that suppose to be Elliots father?

no its not supposed to be his father. The kids would have know him. I think it was justifying why this guy was so obsessed with ET. To make it show that he understood Elliot, something to that effect. He grew up to be a scientist because of it that sort of thing...hope that helps.

Steven Spielberg once commented on making this movie because of his own childhood dreaming of meeting aliens.Perhaps the scientist guy is a representation of how Spielberg himself would feel in that situation today.Besides,Elliot's father is away from home long term and he is aware of this.

i wached E.T. with adult eyes, then i see metaforic sense of the story, E.T. is unconscious, is a pretty and funny monster in dream's of the kids, the end of the story is reality, is the control of emotions when kids coming in the adult world; you can wach also Bamby by Walt Disney and I.A. by Stephen Spielberg

Nope - he has no father. The guy is simply meant to be a "father figure" he embraces the mother too at some point if i recall.
