In my opinion emotions of happiness, sadness are same irrespective of culture.

But expression of these emotions may vary from culture to culture and between different agegroup.

We are all human so we feel the same emotions: sadness, happiness, fear, anger, etc... What is different is how we express them, or wheteher we feel itis proper to express them or not and when , how, etc... In some cultures it is a source of pride to be in control of your emotions and in others to show them freely. I dated a Japanese guy in college and I am Latina so we were at different ends of the spectrum in SHOWING our emotions, but we both certainly FELT them inside anyway!
