Ok, I am awake. Its 3:35am in Ohio. I am retired, so I have no place to go at the moment, and was playing free cell, and decided to answer a few questions. This way, I can get to level 7, and I can quit answering questions! (Yep, its my goal. attain the highest level, then there isn't any other reason to go on).

Its probably because they are saving so much money, since you left, that they can afford to give those who they want to "keep" a good raise, in order that they will stay.

Good employees are valued.

Also, with not having to pay your salary, and fringe benefiets, its cheaper to give some one a raise, and keep them happy, then hire some one new. I bet that the employee that told you this, is getting a lot more responsibility in her work, in order to qualify for such a substantial raise.

I wish you well..

I work for a small compay, and the owner/boss is one of those people who would sell his grandmother to the highest bidder. He will take any opportunity to overcharge a customer, and also will try to find ways to not reimburse employees for expenses or to refuse raises. I guess he hasn't taken into account we work unsupervised in many scattered and constantly changing locations. I have not filled out an accurate time card for well over 5 years, and carry several gasoline tanks to put a gallon or two in every time I fill up the company vehicle, which is several times per week.

5 years ago was when he decided a slow month was reason enough to give three tenths of a percent raise for the year (we only get one raise per year), although the other 11 months were quite profitable for him. That's when I decided I'd make my own raises with overtime... some of which I work another (self-employed) job, go to a bar, or whatever I want to do.

Yes, I'm wide awake and can't sleep. It's 12:30 PDST.

As for your second question, maybe she is older than you and had more time at the company? Or perhaps she is doing her job and your job as well. The company didn't fill your position but asked her to do your ex-job as well as hers.

I feel I'm underpaid. Trust me, there isn't anyone out there from a CEO on down who feels that they are paid what they are worth.

Underpaid, overworked, and unappreciated because I'm not on the "Friends and Family" list. To get on this list I would have to be dumber than the boss, back stab my coworkers, and kiss the boss's *ss. I guess I just have too much self pride to belong to a group like that. I also keep all suggestions to myself because I'm tired of having the credit taken.

Ain't life grand? After working in the work field for twenty five years I'm smart enough to be so not devoted to any job or any of my bosses! I'm an equal opportunity employee now-I hate them all and show no loyalty EVER NEVER AGAIN! What you just said is my exact case and point as to why I am the way I am.
