I'm taking linear algebra for the first time in university, and it seems very abstract and I am having a difficult time comprehending some of it. I'm a very science-minded person (I'm majoring in physics) and I should be able to understand it, but it seems I can't. Has anyone had similar problems with this subject?

The first time it will look abstract but with time and a build up of knowledge base, algebra will be clear coz it is simple logic. And strangely, learning advanced algebra makes you a clear thinker who analyses situations rather soberly. It happened to me.

The matrix version of the challenge is AX = b the position A is a 2x2 matrix [4, ok; ok, a million] X is a vector variable [x; y] and b is a vector consistent [7; 0] there'll be a special answer as long as A is non-singular. there heavily isn't a special answer if A *is* singular. For A to be singular det(A) = 0 the position det() is the "determinant" of a sq. matrix for a 2x2 matrix [a, b; c, d] det([a, b; c, d]) = ad - bc therefore on your case 4*a million - ok*ok = 0 ok^2 = 4 ok = +/- 2

yes. linear algebra was a very bad course for me too. engineering major. and it was very confusing and messed up for most ppl i knew in that class. but the thing is algebra is impt for everything. most things im doing now (3rd year now) involve algebra and matrices in some way. so ya. dont worry

Hi, to me Linear Algebra is interesting and strangely, one of the easier topics to me. I think it is rather mechanical... long steps but mechanical.

But don't fret. Each individual has his/her good topics. I may not be good in other topics that you find easy.

Good luck, ya!

My biggest problem is with Statistics yet I got straight "A"s in Algebra. I still haven't taken Statistics because I'm scared to death to fail it. I'll tell you, its weird how logic works in the mind with mathematics huh?

No. Not so far. If you are having trouble, especially with algebra, you should no wait. You should seek help immediately to solve your problem. Anyway, can you help me out with physics?

What I always had trouble with were the esoteric proofs.They seemed to make a very clear subject very confusing.
