For me, it would probably be Paul Coelho's "The Alchemist".

I thought it was a spectacular book that really makes you think and want to go after your dreams no matter what. I just like how effective it was in regards to the reader...

How about you?

Please don't say the BIble, Quran, or the Torah. Regardless of your religious affiliation, those books are meant to be respected considering they are not particularly the words of man but God.

"To Kill a Mockingbird"

I love the regional flavor Harper Lee included in this amazing book of history and society. She truly captures the true South during this difficult time period. As we read this book today, we look upon our past and realize what mistakes we made. What judgements were made that truly affected lives so greatly. We see how acceptance of differences can bring such fellowship while hatred can bring such evil. We see how the innocence of a child can teach adults to open their eyes and see things at face value. I think this book teaches us so much........gives us such awareness while completely entertaining us with smiles, laughter and tears alike. I would have loved to have written this book right alongside Harper Lee and her best friend Truman Capote!

The Bible

Then i read the rest of the question, and saw that you said "don't write the bible". So i though, Damn, then oh well, then tough luck i'm still going with the bible as i've already written all those words below...

The Bible has sold the most copies WORLD WIDE. There are hundreds of different versions, think of the money. The christian society is one of the richest too (i don't mean "the believers", i mean the vatican city).

But imagine if I changed Jesus, to my name, think of the power and the worshipers i'd have. Everyone would worship me and me alone.... money would be no problem...

Huh. Talk about a Deja Vu kinda feeling...I coulda swore I just answered this somewhere else. Oh well, here I go again:

I wish I had the wit, intelligence and imagination to have written:

Lamb
The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal
by Christopher Moore

If you haven't read it...what are you waiting for...go out and get it right now!!! Right now means now...stop reading this and go get it immediately. Okay fine...here's a synopsis...

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years -- except Biff, the Messiahs best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in the divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work.

See? Sounds cool doesn't it...well it's tremendous and it's one of the few books I've read more than once. NOW...go get it. :-)

George Orwell's 1984.

I wish I had the imagination to create an entirely different world, and I wish I had the ability to use symbolism to represent the true world we live in.

Gone With the Wind.

Spectacular book. Don't confuse it with the movie. If you saw the movie and didn't read the book. You don't know what the story is about.
