It is similar to if you only knew then what you knew now..
After the fact - we always know how things turned out, what we should have done, how we should have reacted, etc - we have that advantage after the fact - that we don't have before it.. It is the event itself that gives us that sight - that information so we become more wise to things after they occur - we can fully see and analyze what happened since we are aware of the whole process - before, during, and after - we can't have that prior to the occurence of something - so we are wiser afterwards.. that is why they say that.

Not really.. You will be amazed at how little we learn out of our own experiences.

Most of the time, we end up pushing the blame onto others, and never learning the lessons offered to us by Mother Experience...

If hind sight were always 20/20, I don't think humanity would be in the state it is today- worrying about whether we'll bomb ourselves to extinction tomorrow.

Further, we believe in certain things, and our prejudices color our vision.. so to speak.. and make each of us perceive reality in a different way.

A person who believes that all Muslims are terrorists, on seeing a Muslim running away from a burning building will immediately frame it as a confirmation of his belief. On the other hand, the guy may simply be running to the nearest public-phone to call for help... We may think we are forming our beliefs based on things we experienced in the past, but what may really be happening is that your beliefs may be forcing you to interpret your experience in a different way. (I don't intend any offense to Muslims.. Its a sad state of our society, that we judge people based on stereotypes..)

And when the truth hurts, we always tend to believe the lie...

So we should always be ready to take a fresh look at what we think are our experiences. We'll never know what lessons we forgot to pick up, or what we threw into the dust-bin..

Um ok so i'm discussing w/ myself.... luckily i have multiple personalites.... anyway...

if you're running to the bus, in the winter, and it's icey out, you're going to bail. So next time it's icey out, you're not going to run - well let's hope.

So of course it's easy to be wise AFTER the event; we learn from our mistakes.
(ya ok so it's a true story, i ran on ice and fell)

You often here the statements, 'I knew it!', or 'I knew this was gonna be'.
Unless you're a professional psychic, you wouldn't predict whats gonna happen before it does.
Most people are such. You wait till things happened, then claim that you expected it so you'd appear smart.

i think it is. Once you have made a mistake i believe you try to avoid making similar ones. Then again, there are some people who just do not learn(them eat worm)
