If your PC freezes to the point that "Ctrl+Alt+Del" won't bring up the window to exit out of the applications that have caused the problem... Hold in your power button for 5 seconds. This shuts down the hard drive is a slightly safer way. Anyway, unpluging your system, or turning off the surge protector to reset your computer is a good way to fry your power supply. SO! If you don't want to go into your room and find a smoking computer, please do not continue doing said action. Having a computer with a fried power supply is much worse then having to restart your computer 10 times a day.

ur comp is more likely 2 freeze up if u overload it by doing things such as using too many programs at once. one of the easiest ways to keep this from happening is to increase the amount of virtual memory (space on your hard drive that the cpu uses as if it were memory) ur comp can use. do this by opening control panel>system>adanced> then click where it says virtual memory. after that type in how much of ur hard drive u want to set aside for virtual memory (typically 500 MB is the most u should set it to-the computer wont make use of the rest if u set it to a larger size). this method isnt garuranteed to stop ur comp from frezzing but it will usually help. if u have the money (and time) however, it would be better for u to add more physical memory to the machine. although the omputer can use virtual memory, it will do so at a much slower speed than when it accesses main memory because reading and writing data from the hard drive is a (relatively) slow process. so its better for to incrase main memory if u can, just take the computer to the nearest electronics store and ask some1 there to install some more for u. in most cases the minimum u should hav is 512 MB if u use the comp for multimedia applications or gaming then 1 GB would be better. last but not least u can upgrade the cpu wich is a bit more expensive and complicated, for various reasons. again just take the computer to an electronics store and ask the ppl there, theyll b able to tell u wat cpus ur motherboard is compatible with, how much it will cost, etc.

you are able to not "harm" your computing device, this is synthetic What you're relating is that some classes do not prefer to be suddenly close off. as an occasion, in case you have Microsoft be conscious open and you're engaged on a rfile, CTRL-ALT-DELETE and terminating MSWord would reason you to lose your transformations. different than that, it does not reason any actual harm to the computing device; i exploit Ctrl-alt-delete each and every of the time and it in no way brought about issues. If it replaced into undesirable they does not placed it into domicile windows.

First, run a virus scan.
If it doesnt work, check for any application which may be responsible for the 'freezing'. ie the one which when run, freezes the system. Remove it from the control panel.
If this doesnt work too, upgrade your RAM.
There can also be hard disk power/data cable problems which cause freezing when they are loosely connected. Check for these loose connections in ur motherboard (Only if u have an assembled pc)

Your computer is either old or your junk files have not been cleaned for ages. So clean up your Internet temporary files, cookies, history and cache; then do a check disk and a defrag. then shutdown your computer and try to restart it. If the problem is still there then something is missing from the windows and you may have to "partially" re-install windows for the components missing. You can do that by inserting the windows CD in its drawer, shutdown the computer and restart it from the CD an follow instructions.

Are you running a certain program when it freezes? Or are you running too many programs at once?
If not, get a virus/spyware removal program and use it to clean your hard drive. You can download some for free, but be careful that they're legit and not more spam. Or buy one from a computer store.

I used to have a Compaq that did that to me.
Its maybe because you don't have enough drive space.
I know that the Compaq that I had was suppose to be a 4 gig hard drive but since Windows XP was on it, it took alot of drive space and only gave 1.04 GB Space. But now I have a Dell, it has a 9 gig.

You need to do a thorough scan. The defrag it. Then get an anti virus, anti spyware/adware program. It sounds as if you do have some viruses and eventually, your machine wouldn't be very usable if you don't take care of the problem.

This happens to mine too :(
I think I need a new one. Rather than pulling the plug, just hold the "on" button for about 10 seconds.

sounds like it might be time to upgrade, your pc isn't coping - you can add extra memory to it or bite the bullet and get another one. MIne used to do the same thing and viruses can also slow it down and cause it to freeze too. I know how u feel it's a pain in the @ss
