Haha...you're Texan? That explains a lot!

The Queen makes most of her own money through her families vast land holdings and other investments. In fact she pays the treasury many millions more than they give her so the country makes a profit. Then there's all the tourism she brings which is very good for the local economies around Windsor, Buckingham, etc.
Then there's the history, the tradition. The fact that our Queen's Family and many of the royal residences are more than several times older than your country.
And pride, we're proud of our Queen. She is a symbol of our country in the same way as the flag is, but much more so.

What a pity your command of the English language is so limited. At least you should learn to speak the Queen's English if you're going to dis her!
This is a question that has stretched back through the centuries. For some reason, that's the way it is. I'd prefer the queen to King Charles and Queen Camilla, though.

The Queen is head of the common wealth (bigger population than the US) it is more than pomp and circumstance, while her role is not as important as it was centuries ago it gives a nation a sense of worthiness and meaning. The funny part is America "sensed" that no political ruler would be worth more than 8 years and no matter what a good job they were doing...except in this admininstrations case it will be 7.5 years too many...the American way is not always the better year, the commonwealth was there long before and will survive long after.

First of all the Queen is a figurehead for the country and an ambassador for us too. The Royal family work to encourage other countries to bring their business here and promote our industries abroad. They also bring alot of tourism revenue and isn't it nice to have a link to our history too? Personally I think we should keep our Royal family!

As for the flowers (I guess you are referring to when Diana died) I thought it was a tasteless gesture of mass hysteria. The people buying those flowers did not know her personally and the mourning should be left to family and friends. I also think that the massive outpuring of grief and the continued press conspiracy theories have been in bad taste and can only be rubbing salt in the wound for her family and friends.

There is no point to having the Queen unless you support privilege as birthright, remeberance of the brutality of people addicted to violence, obnoxious people who cause only division and rancor and you believe that the majority of people do not deserve a chance to better themsleves but should be slaves there to serve your every whim. Otherwise the Queen is a unfortunate reminder of disgraceful conduct which should be a source of regret rather than celebration.

In the UK the Royal family generated over £250 million pounds a year in tourism from other people coming over to visit their houses, palaces and to see them. They are great ambassadors for our country and it's nice to have some history to look back on and be proud of when what we're doing in the world currently makes our blood boil! Long Live the Queen :)

The chief advantages are contintuity and non-partisanship. The Queen is above party politics and can be respected by anyone regardless of their political views (outside of the far left). If you are from Texas, then your federal system is uniquely odd in combining the head of state, who is meant to be symbolic, with head of government, who is a politician. This a) makes it harder for people to question his judgement as they should a politician, and b) makes it harder for people who don't support him to respect him as the head of state and a symbol of the country.

As for continuity, presidents for life are a menace as they have real power, but the Queen does not and people like the stability of having the same head of state that most of us grew up with. She has 50 years' worth of experience to share with her prime minister - our next-but-one PM could be just 42 years old and would no doubt benefit from her advice.

Finally, a lot of people like the ceremony, ritual and tradition that comes with monarchy, like the state opening of parliament, the changing of the guard, the Christmas Address, the grandeur of weddings and funerals, the dressing up. It reminds us of our history and has helped to create a global British brand. I seem to notice a lot of your countrymen visiting London enjoying seeing the aura and trappings of royalty.

Finally, there is no greater 'dumbass' on the world stage today than your own president - and a man of his limited abilities would not be in president were it not for who his father was. It seems you did not lose the deference to family connections in 1776 after all.

Cherie Blair is said to regard herself as the popular queen of England, being the wife of an elected leader. I think that she is one of the most cogent arguments in favour of the monarchy!
