Men are overt, women are covert. I know. I've been married a long time.
Actually, men and women humans developed to compensate for each others weaknesses. Pregnant women are physically pretty useless when it comes to out-running preditors. It's a proven fact that women have better color vision: pick the wrong berries and your family dies. Men have better spacial recognition: guess the timing of the woolly mammoth's foot stomp incorrectly and you're dead and the family starves.
The rest of your question and argument has less to do with sex than culture. And cultures change slowly. There have been matriarchal societies in the past, as well as the patriarchal. Cultures adopt whatever form they need in order to survive, or they don't last long.
and remember... " The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world."

I suspect that quite a few women had the same kind of opinion almost 100 years ago. Some people are adverse to change. My grandmother for instance is nearly 80 and shares very traditional views such as this one, although I do doubt she would have felt this strongly...do remember the time of the letter and remember that as women today seek equality I could imagine not many women of that time period would have all agreed on feminism in its right. It's just a thought I had on reflection.

Male-dominant/ female-submissive relationships *can* work in a case-by-case basis, but in overall society I don't believe it's a good idea.
Being someone in a Dominant/submissive relationship - and being a model who chooses to depict those sorts of relationships - I can tell you that I personally find great pleasure in being submissive to certain male Dominants who have earned my respect. Women in general can find pleasure in various types of relationships, like becoming the Dominatrix or equal, or being in lesbian or open relationships. I feel that no type of working relationship is inferior or superior to any other.
On a society-wide level, both women and men provide different perspectives and solutions to many of the world's ills, and both genders should be treated with equal respect.

I agree with the song from Usher with Lil' jon and Ludacris. "we wand a lady on the street and a freak in the bed." I think women are the ones that hold the family unit together. She is the nuture and such, which is more important than a provider. Anyone can provide. I don't see being submissive as being a slave and always obedient to her husband. Submissive is being caring, listening, content, supportive in emotional and psychological areas. Couples should not argue nor disagree in public. That is for behind closed doors. Neither should make the other look "stupid" in public. Certain discussions should be kept quiet. And never infront of their children. A wife, many times, has the upper voice in the relationship, be should know when it is the proper time to use it. And to stand by her man at all times.
(of course, this is for healthy relationships. If a man is abusive, then she should fight for herself & stand up for herself or get outl.)

In some sense, of course. Just as, in some sense, it's true that "men should be submissive at some sense to impressed women."
Look at the symbol for Yin and Yang.
Alone, each is incomplete and easily damaged. United correctly, they occupy equal areas efficiently and with great strength and mobility.
I think that, typically, men can be considered a motive force, while women are a civilizing force. Both are vital to our survival, in the same way that both direction and movement are necessary to achieve progress.

I think that stereotypes are based on truth, but there are always exceptions to every rule. My wife enjoys being in the more submissive role, as have all my previous girlfriends, so I think that is the norm. However, I have a friend who's wife is a power broker who makes 2 million a year and is the closest thing to a guy as you can get! Therefore, I really just think it depends on the relationship.

Back in the stoneage and soon thereafter, women HAD to be submission coz we're dependent on the male for survival.
Times have changed but the male mentality has yet to evolve.
Nowadays, female submission can be a way to manipulate men since most of them need to have their fragile ego puffed up once in a while.
Males are superior in terms of physical strength.
Female are superior in terms of mental strength.
In an age of information, which do you think is the superior trait to possess?

I don't mind a man taking charge in some situations as long as I get to take charge in others. As long as it's equal. I'm not a doormat, and I don't date doormats.
Though the smart woman works it so that the man does what she wants, all the while thinking that it's all his idea.

No. It may be true in your world but it is not in mine. Brawn used to be the measure of a man but now brains are more important. And women have brains that think differently then men's but just a well in my opinon.
