I think it's repulsive and reveals that someone has been 'coddled' and never made to grow up.
My 12 yr old step-son still does it and I just hate it. When we wake him up in the morning he's lying there with his thumb in his mouth. It's really disturbing to me - but I know it's because his mum let him do it past a certain age and now he probably doesn't even realise that he's doing it in his sleep.
He doesn't suck his thumb any other time (that we're aware of) and we always pull him up if we see him looking as though he might be on the verge of it.
It's sort of like nail biting, if someone doesn't realise they do it, or are never made to feel bad about it - they just carry on.
A really, really bad habit in my honest opinion and a major turn-off.

I have an aunt who is in her 60's and still do this. I've been known to do this in my sleep at times but it's something that has been with me since birth. It's a calming effect.

I think it's adorable to catch full grown men sucking their thumb when they fall asleep -and I like to pick on them about it- even though I think it's the cutest thing.

aah that is funny..I do have a girl friend who does that..but only at night when she goes to sleep and she brushes her hair with her hand...I thought it was strange at first but then I just figured it was sad because she must not of received any comfort as a child and had has to comforter herself.
