I would hope that they are smarter than those who think that simply raising taxes raises more revenue (I feel sorry for those simple-minded types). Most people (I would hope) understand that tax rates and revenues do not work in that way.

"Tax cuts for the rich" (as Dems like to call them), have led to increases in tax revenues (and corp. revenues), so why do the Democrats continue to say that the "Bush" tax cuts led to greater deficits when it is so apparent that only excessive spending by an irresponsible and despicable Congress is to blame for such conditions?

What's up Dems? Why do you continuously spread misinformation and propaganda that has no basis in fact regarding this issue?

As for the rich, the top1% of taxpayers pay 37% of the federal personal income taxes. How is that for your so-called fair share? Don't forget that the money they make is theirs.

Two reasons: a 250 billion dollar debt our country has been saddled with and flat wages for the working class for 6 years. American workers are the best in the country but are given the shaft by the GOP and their business cronies. High productivity has not led to higher pay checks for workers, only executives.

Pelosi has promised that within 100 hours of taking control she will repeal the tax cuts. I did not know she was the queen of America but I guess she believes it.

Schumer has been quoted in the WSJ that the Dems are going to stay silent on their agenda because the Reps will shoot at them, maybe they are silent because they know americans will reject their insanity.

Last week, Mr. Rangel was asked by Congress Daily whether he'd consider tax increases across the income spectrum. ‘No question about it,’ he said. ‘Everything has to be on the table.’ ‘Everything’ would mean repealing the 10% low-income tax bracket, the child tax credit and marriage penalty relief, all of which passed in 2001 and expire in 2010. According to the Treasury Department, repealing those provisions would raise taxes on the average middle income family by about $2,000 a year. Apparently charlie is not listening to chuckie and the average american family is about to lose $2,000 as a result of this party of the little man. Maybe they just mean Americans will be the little man after they rape and pillage, tax and spend.

The insanity of this is, the Bush tax cuts have created 6.6 million jobs and the dems are going to try and roll that back. Do the dems want America weakened financially so the terrorists and the rest of the world can run over us. Americas greatest strength is its financial strength, this recent growth in the economy has greatly increased cash savings in Americans accounts and the Dems want to take it away. What kind of insanity is this?

"This boom in employment started in August of 2003, roughly coincident with the economy's growth acceleration in the wake of the Bush Administration's 2003 tax cuts on dividends, capital gains and in the top marginal income rate on the highest earners. Yet on the same day that the Labor Department discovered 810,000 new jobs, Nancy Pelosi promised that if she becomes Madam Speaker next year, within 100 hours of taking the gavel the House will vote to repeal those tax cuts and raise the minimum wage. Never underestimate the ways that Washington politicians can do economic harm." - WSJ

Americans have purchased more houses than ever before in history, and it was because of the tax cuts letting the citizens keep more of THEIR hard earned money and now the Dems want to take it away, maybe they want their houses as well so they can have more homeless victims and bankruptcies they can blame on the republicans. The economic growth in America was at all levels, not the upper 2%, and it shows in the housing sales numbers.

We now have what is termed a goldilocks economy, not too hot or too cold, just right.

Do you remember the runaway foolishness of the clinton/dotcom debacle, wild speculation on companies that made no products, or services or profits and Clinton gleefully taking full credit for the great economy but when the bust came he quickly started pointing fingers, which seems to be the only thing he can do well. That recession was all his doing and the fact that we were able to recover so quickly shows all the importance of letting Americans keep their hard earned money.

Dump the socialists before they dump America.

It's just in their Political Party Contract to Criticize. Of course their frustrated by the facts that Bushs Tax Cuts have proven so benefitial.
Their idea of a tax cut is an even cut across the board regardless of ones income. The problem is, many of the lowest income erners don't make enough to pay taxes anyway so their cut would essencially just be an additional Socialist redistribution of wealth which is Liberals true mission anyway.
The so called "Top 1%" pay like 35% of the total tax burden, therefore I don't begrudge them a substantial cut.

Answer this--What is replacing the monies lost from the Bush Tax cuts? Is your last name Walton, Gates, Hilton, ...I didn't think so. Is the money you leave your heirs enough to sustain a couple generations? I didn't think so. So why don't you quit trying to sell their(republican) propaganda for them and be your own man? Corporate welfare is not puttting money in either of our pockets. Get some dignity, get on some progressive websites and try and learn the other side of the arguement.

Sorry to be so brash, but I just can't see why anyone would wanna defend tax cuts for people that don't benefit the masses much less themselves. I may not have all the facts, I'm definitely not a numbers guy, but I have heard the expression that figures don't lie, but liars can figure!! Your figures may be good, but theirs a lot there not said and cherry-picking the good info only tells one side of the story. Peace

You, sir, are an idiot.

Yes, now, finally tax receipts are up. But had there been no tax cuts, the increase in receipts would be about double what it is now.

Receipts tend to go up about 3% per year. (Inflation, you know.) When Bush cut the taxes, receipts dropped by about 15%, and they've been going up about 3% per year ever since. Now, five years later, they are finally back up to where they were before the cuts. If you adjust for inflation receipts are still much lower than they were in 2000.

And don't expect me to cry for the rich. The gap between the rich and the poor has been widening at an ever-growing rate since 2000.

Obviously if cutting taxes would increase revenues, all we would need to do to get maximum revenue is to collect no taxes at all. Right?

Why is it that Republicans cannot do math?

First of all, it is not the dem's who created the mess!!! This only started when Bush got himself in (2) times!
I would gladly pay 50 % if I were the top 1% of taxpayers!!!!
How can u call fair share to the familys making less than $20,000 who must decide bills or groceries????
u simple minded excuse of a human---what is the problem? The problem is too much debt, an unnecessary war, and a president who has never had to live within a budget!!!
