Well, you are never going to get rid of oily skin. If you've got it, you probably always will to some degree. What you have to do is start a regime -- cleanser, toner and moisturizer. I find that cream cleansers are just too heavy for my oily skin, so I use a foaming cleanser instead that does a good job. Use a toner with no alcohol in it as alcohol tends to dry out the skin, making your skin produce even more oil. Use different day and night moisturizer. The day one should have SPF protection; in a night moisturizer, look for one with vitamin A in it. This is an active ingredient in one of the most widely used prescribed creams for acne. Not as strong of course, but it helps. Also, I would recommend using a deep cleaning mask 2-3 times a week. I like to use a clay mask myself. Some people also exfoliate as well. I find it too harsh for my skin to exfoliate daily, but don't, don't, don't use a cheap, walnut shell type product. Biore puts out a decent one that is much gentler, and there are others as well. All of these products can be found for under ten dollars at your local drugstore.

By following this regimen strictly, my skin clears up dramatically with only the occasional pimple.

Whiteheads are caused by excessive oil production clogging the pores as well as dead cells being trapped. Blackheads are just whiteheads that have oxygen available because they are in an open pore on the face. Beta hydroxyl acid (aka Salicylic acid) is the best at removing the excess oil and fat in the pore since it's fat soluble. This also means that you wouldn't want something that washes off, you want it to stick around and penetrate (sounds kind of naughty XD~) and do the dirty work for you deep in the pore. Using benzoyl peroxide after the salicylic too (used to treat acne) helps too. Just remember that you need to wash your face daily, twice a day in fact, with cleansers that are GENTLE. This helps prevent more buildup in the first place. and even though you have a problem now, you help prevent more in the future. And also moisturize. If you strip your face of all its oil (benzoyl peroxide tends to dry the skin out), your body will produce MORE to try to balance itself out again. Which will lead to more problems. Get a daily moisturizer that doesn't clog pores and have sunscreen too. The whitehead is more annoying to get to, because its all that crap trapped underneath the skin. If you cant take care of it by yourself, then going to a dermatologist to have it taken out is the best thing.

St Ives Clear pore cleanser does a good job and smells nice too. Be careful to not over wash... this can dry the skin and cause you to overproduce natural oils compounding your problem. Also be careful with other perfumed soaps and cleansers as these can possibly irritate the skin, again making things worse, like causing small break outs and redness from allergic reaction.

If it is persistent, you would be wise to see your doctor. Acne is one stigmatism that you do not have to live with. I'm assuming you're in your teens or early 20's, keep in mind a lot of this is caused by hormonal development and will pass with time, but I understand how hard it can be in the immediate present. Hope all of this advice helps out and good luck :-)

The more you wash your face with a product that is for oily skin, your skin actually produces more oil because it dries it out too much. You can use a mattifying gel called OC8, it will take care of the oiliness. You can try Cetaphil cleanser also.
