I want to know if front loaders are far better than top loaders. I've been told they take 2 hours for a wash, but give better results with less water.

I have a front loader it's a GE. I've had it for 5 years and I love it. It senses how much water it needs to add for every load, so it does save water. It uses less water than a top loading washer. It is also much gentler on your clothes since it does not have an agitator. It is capable of holding a larger load as well because you don't have the agitator taking up extra space. It is much quieter than most washers. And it takes about the same time to was a load as a normal washer. I love mine.

I was like you until recently, couldn't decide between top or front loader. I ended up getting a front loader & haven't looked back. It's a beauty! Washes extremely well & doesn't use much water. It is a 7kg, plenty big enough but I would have preferred a faster spin speed than 800rpm & I do advise getting a machine that measures the amount of water required for the load. I will never go back to a top loader. All the best!!!

I have a front loader washing machine. The cycle I use takes around 90 minutes. They are quieter than a top loader machine, they are more gentle on the clothes because of the tumble action compared to agitating action and use less water but depending on where you live they can be more expensive. I would not go back to using a top loader machine.

I have a Kenmore Elite, top loader with Calypso Wash Motion.

With it;s matching dryer, of course!

I LOVE them, they are energy efficient, they use a very small amount of water, and the washer cleans the clothes very well, yet is is so gentle it can be used with confidence on delicate garments.

I used to hand wash my silk garments, but not anymore! My washer is so gentle that I can even put blouses embroidered with beads and buggle beads without any problem.

I wash at least a load a day, and last electricity bill was only 41 dollars :-)

You are supposed to use High Efficiency detergent, but I have discovered that you can use smaller amounts of regular detergent without any ill effects.

There are all kinds of cycles, short (25 minutes for the hand wash cycle) to long (about 70 minutes) for large loads or whitest whites.

You can have a second rinse and/or extended spin, and the clothes come out almost dry! It is great!

It has LOTS of room inside. We have King Size quilts, and they fit in there with some room to spare. I wash my pillows very often, and that has diminished my allergies a lot.

Also, since it is a top loader, if you happen to forget to put a garment in there, you can always lift the cover mid-cycle and add the missing sock or whatever was trying to hide from the washer

I am very satisfied with my washer and drier, and I cannot recommend them enough.

:-)

Ok these people saying they have less capacity and take two hours are completely nuts! We have the high-line model duet. All front loaders are more efficient in water use, electricity, soap, time it takes to wash and the amount of clothes they hold. When we pull out shirts or whatever they are practically dry when the washer is finished before they even get to the washer!

I like a front loader better because they use less water and are more gentle on your clothing. They do take longer to wash, but seem to be better at wringing out the water so they take less time to dry. That's been my experience, anyway.

Having had both a frontloader and a top loader, I'd have to say I prefer a frontloader.

dont believe it. i have always had a top loader in the usa but when we moved to europe a few years back they werent available and i had to get a front loader. big mistake, they are smaller (half the capacity of top loader) and take twice as long to do a load of laundry (approx 45 minutes for a normal cold wash) biggest mistake i ever made!!!

they do take longer to wash.but a top loader takes 150>180 litres of water per wash and my lg front loader takes at most 74litres so that is great as i live on tank water.think of the future

What? 2 hours? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. My front loader is about 4 months old and is done in under 15 minutes. I love it.
