just wondering which are best and least expensive?

Is Dell a good computer for computing? Or IBM?

Everyone is different has different needs. Might you one day become a Day Trader, trade futures, Forex? How much money do you have and how much power do you need? The top of the line dual core hotrod computer would be overkill to write letters to Mom, and a $500 laptop would be useless in Day Trading.

"Best" and "least expensive" rarely fit in the same category.

If you can't afford the commissions, you shouldn't be trading. This should be far down your list of priorities. I would gladly pay double commissions to be able to make double profits.

Brokers are all about the same and charge about the same fees. Unless you depend on them for research or full service.

Trading platforms and executions are not the same across the board. These are the first two things you should consider, if you will ever be a trader.

Whoever answers this question, will give you the broker that they have settled on and now use. But their criteria are different than yours, and you don't tell us what yours are.

Whether you are trading stocks, commodities, futures, options, or all of these, TerraNova is the only one that you can trade everything, real time, online, direct access. A lot of online brokerages claim to give you direct access, but if they take more than a second to execute your trade, it ain’t direct.

Find the articles online, or in the trade magazines, that have evaluated and compared online brokerages. I found a good one online in Barron's.

This is worth putting a little time and effort into, because it's a pain to switch, so once you choose, you're kinda stuck with it.

Townsend Electronics, the Parent company of TerraNova, are the people that digitized and electronified the Nasdaq. They are technological industry leaders and have a powerful and well built trading system.

I use RealTick at TerraNovaOnline, but it costs $275/mo. I think the Investor package is free to use, and just uses one screen.

What you should try is a free trial of their Investor platform. You only get one window to trade from. Their rates are good also, but of course, it depends on how often you trade. It will take you months to learn all the bells and whistles of what this program can do.

The other top-of-the line program is TradeStation, but it costs big bucks to join and operate. Some people consider it the Cadillac of trading and technical analysis.

TerraNova is the home of the Day Trader, so they think nothing of you making several hundred trades a day. You don't have to do that, but it's okay here if you do.

I have used Scottrade for several years now, and am happy with them.

The web site is easy to use, and the customer service people are very good.
The fees are very low, and they do not charge for every little thing like some companies do.
Executions are good, although I have had a bit of slowness right at market open.
The offer a long list of mutual funds that have no transaction fees.

I do not trade options, so I cannot say anything on that.
I do not use their research tools, because I find what I need elsewhere on the web.

I would recommend Scottrade.

If you have or want to buy stocks you can go to E*Trade.com (US company that trades out of Hong Kong with offices worldwide)and open an account for free, I have my stock account there with them and if I need any advise they tell me within 24 hours and best of all their advise is free but only if you hold an account with them, trading or selling incurrs a flat rate fee of US$19.99. Good Luck.

it's reasonably priced and good for the personal investing. Also look into sharebuilder.com. These are probably the best bargains out there right now.

it is OK but hardly great
one of the cheapest but lacking in research;
on line options are somewhat limited for the regular customer;
web site itself is not particularly user friendly

over all....I quess you get what you pay for...as the old saying goes

trade execution is fine...and pricing is very low
I quess the "quality" of the brokerage is very dependent on your individual needs
