well if the previous owners have had pets their urine could have soaked under the carpet and into the foam cushion where it will remain until it is replaced. if its bare floors it could have soaked through or into the wood.

The only thing I can think of that could get rid of such difficult to remove odors is something like an ozone generator, would you'd have to find a professional for because those types of devices (meant for houses not cars) are very pricy, also it is not a guarantee to remove the odor.

Has the stench of urine been there for long time already? Or it has never happen before and this stench suddenly came out strong? There may be many factors leading to such discovery.

I suggest you get some carpet powder with baking soda in it and vacuum the carpets really good, then get some pinesol and clean all of your tile floors, that should take care of the problem. It may be your nose is more sensative to the smell than others and perhaps there was a pet that lived there before you. Also check your vents, sometime cats get in the basement and into the vents system and urinate in them.

You might want to get checked out by a neurologist just to make sure it's nothing serious it just might be a sensory disorder if theirs really no odor in the room

Some people suffer from exactly the opposite, an extremely acute sense of smell, and find certain smells - and not just bad smells - quite disturbing; an altered sense of smell, or suddenly experiencing strong smell sensations for no apparent reason, is sometimes a feature of pregnancy; a minority of Cancer patients report specific smell and taste changes.

I would have the carpeting removed and go with a natural wood covering. Carpet contain years of history. You'll be surprised what lurks just under and in it.

try a fan with the aid of the door or roll up a rug to stuff in the crack under your door.verify to make sure if there's a window in the kitchen that others can open to maintain the scent from heading in direction of your room.
