What killer is talking about is the best way. The stuff is boric acid and is sold under several different names, probably the best known is Terro. The stuff works really well at killing a colony. The hard part, and this is impossible for some people, is to let them go. You can't step on them. Once they eat the Terro, if you kill them it will never get back to the colony, and if they don't get back to the colony the queen will not be killed. It's hard.

In my experience I have had a few encounters with black ants. and always found i had some kind of water leak, may not be true to all, but was to me. I used the ant traps. it usually takes up to 2 weeks to see results, but they work.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/mdhlm useful.

Sugar (black) ants are the worst. I have used Tarro (which was mentioned) and it works short term. I highly advise trying a pest control company, most are environmentally friendly and the overall costs pay off.

Put out grits, they eat them which dehydrates them and kills them. It may take a week but it's safe to use.
