First of all, when laying down at night, prop yourself in an upwards position. This helps the acid that contributes to heartburn to move down your body and not up. A lot of cold ice water helps also. Can't you take zantac with antibiotics and iron pills though? Because zantac helps alot but if you can't, also try some yogurt. It seems to help me for some odd reason. Good luck and I know how you feel. Heartburn really hurts so much. Cut back on your caffiene intake as well.

If it is chronic, take Prilosec, Pepcid, or Zantac.
If it occurs after a meal, then you need to stop eating fast, if you are. Also, an empty stomach can create the acid that causes heartburn. I usually take Tums before a meal and before I go to sleep at night. I take Prilosec each morning before I eat (supposed to take before eating). It really helps.

Old fashioned remedy that works: Baking soda mixed in a glass of water. You will get immediate relief.

tums and those kinds of meds actually get rid of the good acid your stomach needs. You can talk to your doctor about perscriptions but your body only gets used to them. go to a health food store and get there opinion. My grandfather swears by chili powder. Personaly I use Aloe Juice. It has no taste and is smooth like water you can add it to anything. I just do a shot of that before my spicy foods and I have no problems.

I use one teaspoon of baking soda in a small glass of warm water, mix it up and drink it down! It tastes disgusting but it has always worked for me!
