Talk to your doctor. He can order a test. Good luck.

The best way to tell is an amniocentesis because they actually get a genetic profile, it's 99% accurate. The CVS can also show down syndrome. I know that the doctor told me that the first trimester screenings that they can do doesn't always show down syndrome and sometimes gives a false positive reading(they don't actually diagnose anything they say that there is an increased likely hood). They can do an ultrasound in the first trimester and look for excess fluid behind the neck, but this also is not very accurate.

I believe that an amniocentesis is the way the doctors can test for things like downs syndrome. This is a procedure that withdraws some amniotic fluid from your tummy and the doctors test it for various things. Looking it up on the Internet is a good research tool.

there are 3 test, none of them 100% accurate
1 is an ultrasound where they take a measurement of something,
1 is a blood test where they triangulate levels of hormones
1 is amniosentisis where they draw some fluid from the amniotic sack. this last one is invasive and carries with it some risks. check out http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk

that might give you some more detailed advice - i only know this cos i looked into it a little for my prgnancy, so i am not an authority but you can check this out then be armed with some info to go to your GP with.

good luck

Most doctors will give you the option of a blood test and if that is positive the will do one other test to see if your baby could potentially have down syndrome. I will pray for the health of your baby.

Best way to tell is from the test your doctor offers you. It's a blood test, and if that test is abnormal then they do an amnio.

the possiblily of it depends on age.. the older you get then your chances go up.. but an Amniocentiesis is the only way to determine it..
if your younger than 40 then dont worry about it.. your doctor will take care of you and if he was worried then he would test you.. youll be fine.. good luck!

Tests your OB can perform-I know an amnio is often used. Not sure of the acuracy.

if you are at risk for it or if your doctor suspects down syndrome then they will do an amnio. That should be able to tell you whether theres a risk or not.
