Married or dating, Do people really think 12 years to long to stay with someone?

I don't think 12 years is along time to be in a relationship but some people do. My husband and I are having our 12 yr anniversary this weekend and when I tell people that, they acted as though I have two heads. Just made we wonder what people were really thinking. Thanks for all your answers.

Is there really some sort of time limit imposed on people in a relationship? When people commit to each other, it should be a commitment not a renewable lease!

Personally, I don't think that is a very long time, but it definitely seems as though A LOT of people think it is.

My husband and were together 4 years before we got married and not because we weren't sure about making the commitment, we both just knew that a good, solid relationship takes time. We didn't move in together until about a month before the wedding, and even though we had taken trips together and stayed together during extended vacations, we found that there were still things we were discovering once we began living together.

I have an acquaintance who told me that she and her husband were married 7 months after they first met and later told me that he had moved in with her after knowing each other only a month!
They split up last Christmas --they were married 2 years.

Another friend of mine, whose live-in girlfriend just had their 2nd child in 2 and a half years, had complained to me over a year ago that they had their first baby because his girlfriend was complaining that they had been together for a year and she didn't know where their relationship was going!

???

When I think back to where I was 12 years ago, it really wasn't ALL THAT long ago. It's a pretty good chunk of time but because the entertainment industry has such a big influence on society, it most definitely sends a message that 12 years in a relationship is like an eternity!

I've been with the same person for over twice that long. It seems like a very short time, to me.

this isn't aldus huxley's brave new world. there is no too long to be with someone, as long as you love them and want to be with them.
