In the mental health field it pays to have a name so that the correct treatment can be applied. If you look up statistics you will find millions of people who have been helped once their problems were identified. I hope it doesn't stop because it has produced a more productive society.

No, you absolutely do not have OCD.

It's unfortunate how so many people fall into the trap of FDA politics dont' you agree? and we end up becoming the guinea pigs for drug testing. They make drugs for everything now. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a drug on the market for making you believe that you can wake up with mint fresh breath for the rest of your life if you keep popping the same pill for 30 days.

I don't want to knock the field of Psychiatry or Psychology but, I would not ask a person to diagnose me with an illness to get pain killers. That’s not the solution, nor is it the solution to pay someone who requires a fee for a set of ears. I have to admit it, Tom Cruise had a bad rap, personally I agreed with him on the topic of depression. Drugs aren’t the only solution.

I know that this isn't exactly touching your main concern, but it seems that you are intelligent enough to know from all that you expressed. I hope the fact that I added my two cents to your remarks helped, you are on the right track.

There are strict rules for diagnosis of OCD. I suggest googling OCD and the DSM TR-IV for the current criteria. Just going over and over your problems doesn't mean you have it. You have to have a lot of other symptoms as well. In the answer to the other question i was just suggesting it might be a possiblity. You obviously just have that detail oriented mind set. It isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just like you were saying, being a certain way doesn't mean something is wrong with you.

I think I do make a good therapist in training because of the way my thought pattern goes. Ever see that show Monk on USA network? It is about a detective with OCD. He is perfect for his job because he sees details and picks up on the littlest clue. Use your way of thinking to your advantage.

If you ever saw somone with real obsessive compulsive disorder you would know that it is a serious and debilitating problem just as real depression is a serious problem and real bi-polar disorder is a serious problem. Unfortunately a lot of people know enough pop psychology to toss those terms around where they don't belong. People who suffer from mental illneses really suffer as much as people suffering from physical illnesses. Don't assume that your never having seen the real thing means it doesn't exist.

Of course you don't have OCD.
I think that words like depression, anxiety and OCD get tossed around a lot by people who don't understand what they mean.
Go look at the DSM-IV if you want to see the actual diagnostic criteria for these disorders.

You are more than likely suffering from a high IQ. Go to www.tickle.com and take the general IQ test. The problem is, more than likely, that you do not have friends who are as smart as you are and therefore you can't 'vent' your findings to them and have them to understand because they are incabable or unwilling to think as deeply about any particular problem as you have. You can either find new and deeper friends or you can vent your findings by writting them down. It may seem that you think too fast to write everything down but thats just it. You jump from logical conclusion to another conclusion and another so quickly that it seems that you have exhausted a subject and yet can't seem to find the 'end.' It is a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that you can find truth in the search for the 'end.'

Write it down. Then show your findings to another who is intelligent enough to read into it instead of dismissing it as 'crazy' thought. Hell, send it to me if you want. ben_j_mac@yahoo.com
