this is a very difficult thing to explain. from now on, even though the word "yourself" is not 2 words, try and pretend it is, when constructing sentences. you would not say "how are your self?" (dont try and say "how IS (instead of are) your self?" is correct, its not correct, because its not proper grammar.) "how are you?" makes much more sense.
you would not say to a person freaking out "get ahold of you!!" that doesnt make any sense either. "get ahold of your self!!" makes much more senese. or "you will soon be your self again." see? i just used both in the same sentance.
when you seperate the word and pretend its two words, you can probably see that "your" and "self" are easier words to place in sentances, rather than trying to figure out wheather to use "you" or "yourself" do you know the difference between "you" and "your"?

The difference between you and yourself is that:
"You" represents the ego, ideations, etc. which cannot see everything in its right perspective, is shadowed with preconcieved ideas, conditioning etc.. At times it enters into conflict and disharmony. It is also known as discursive consciousness.
It is represented by that consciousness which is always dynamic. When it rests, it becomes Yourself.
"Yourself" represents a true human being that sees things as they are, and is free from wrong ideas about reality and acts in harmony with the universe at all times.

The way that you use in in a sentence. I would not say The way that yourself. If someone says thank you, you could reply by saying thank yourself instead. See the difference I hope.

If you are as old as you are in your picture, then you are asking far too many philosophical questions for your own good. These types of questions should be answered privately from your own being. I am concerned that you are shooting blanks in your mind and not coming up with any good answers. You have good questions, but my concern is the barrage of words that stream in and out can potentially be detrimental. A good question is a sign of intelligence, but wisdom comes from answering the questions not with words but with realizations. No word, however meaningful or piognantly phrased can ever match a heart's true acceptance of its own inherent state of existence. If these questions are serious ones, meditate on them and contemplate your own existence. A deep profound teacher or spiritual text is also a must.

I don't know if that's what you're really asking... the words you've used to ask this question... there must be a more deeper reason and meaning perhaps?
The difference between you and yourself as in me and myself... is that 'me' is who I am inside. My soul. It's the unfulfilled dreams I never kept. The despaired goals. The hidden secrets not everyone can see. It's the longing I have as a 16-year-old to see my father smile at me once again and to call him dad for all my life he has never been there for me. Me, is veining to struggle out of these ropes I'm tied to spiritually and once I cut through I'm never to look back. It's the thoughts that go through my mind day in and day out that just one more day and everything will be fine... once more and my Hero will come to save me again like he did before. Me, is this little young girl standing on a mountain peak screaming for her Hero or someone to come and bring light to my darkness. Me, is this faint dim candle holding on to the flame and burning inside. It's the music I hum to, and once it rains I feel like dancing, like a peacock. It's the beauty my writing and drawings capture... Me; is wishing that they stop their talking. Their vague opinions. Their hatred for beauty. Their greed for more and more - it's piercing my integrity.
Myself, as in yourself, is who I am outside. The myself people know me as, what's visible to a complete stranger. Brown eyes, long dark black hair... the smile I've plastered to my face. Myself is the strong teenager who will fight anything that comes across her way. The will to change the world someday.
However, I am who I am. And my memories are to keep, no one can take away my feelings which I've kept hidden for oh too long. I'm alone in a crowd and I'm never going to fall because my Hero picks me up before I feel weak. I'm fighting the venom and I'm gonna come out brighter and wiser for all the mistakes I made, make and will do.
Stay safe. - Maryam

You is "the spirit" whereas yourself is "the soul." Humans have both spirit and soul. Whats the difference between them? Spirit has free will but no memory, whereas soul IS memory but has no freewill.

The word 'you', I think, refers to how others see you while the word 'yourself' refers to how you look at yourself.

We all have two selves. One self is ego, not a real self but a made up self. The other self is Spirit, the real self that always has been and always will be. The question should be "which self do you identify with?"
