Well, you could manually dig through the county records in every county in Texas. There are about 300 if memory serves correctly.

In Texas, you can try two things online (before having to dig through paper records).

First of all, you can see if the appraisal district for the particular county where the property is located has a web site. If so, you can usual search by last name. That is assuming the person paying the taxes is actually the person who owns the property.

Secondly, the county goverment for the location of the property might have the ability to search tax records online. That would show you the actual ownership as of the last update of those records.

Go to a title company and ask someone in the research dept. to help you, they may charge you a fee to research this, but you can also go to the county clerk's office and do your own research there. They can pull up just about any record concerning land. Make sure your sweet to the clerk's though.. they are a valuable resource to have on your side.
