To understand anything - Effectively listening, asks questions for clarifications (if in doubt). Repeat what YOU understood to the other person, to confirm if that's what it is all about. Very often, the message between sender and receiver is not the same! If the 'thing' needs some practical (actually doing it), try doing it. Doing it is the best form of understanding anything. And practice makes perfect.
