i believe women over age of 35 are more likely to have children with down syndrome.

They say 35 is the start of the danger age, my mother was 36 when she gave birth to my brother who has downs. The funny part was she was tested when she was pregnant with my sister (they are 11 months apart) she would have recurring nightmares of a child born with no hands. Oddly enough my sister who is now 25 is an artist and all she uses is her hands.

The most reliable test for down syndrome is an amniocentesis (sic). It will give you peace of mind. While having a child with down syndrome can be difficult and a hardship, I would not change my brother in anyway. They are the most loving selfless people on earth. They just take a little longer to do the everyday.

Truth be told there is NO age at which down syndrome is more prevalent!! It is a gene disorder that is usually already there in the parent no matter what age she is. In truth there was a study that said there is a high number of DS babies to women over 35 then under but that is because there are less babies being born in that age range. Percentage wise there is very little difference.

Downs syndrome can occur in virtually any age of a pregnant woman, but as you are in your 30's to 40's you are at the highest risk

Just so you don't panic -- the chances DO go up with maternal age, but they still aren't overwhelming: The incidence of DS at birth is lower at age 20 (1/1600) than at age 35 ( 1/370) -- but one in 370 is still not very high. Well under 1% chance.

I believe the age is 35. Most age related concerns start at that age.

They really get worried about it whr a woman is in her hate 30's and 40's. But it ca happen any time. I know two women who had babies that have Down Dyndrome and one was 25 and the other was 32. The chances are higher though for older mothers.
