I personally think it has to do with imagination. You can dream as far as your imagination will go.
Some people see colour and little details, some people don't. Just as some people are aware when they are dreaming, and some people aren't.

dreams varies everyday....it depends on how tired i was, once i dreamed that i was locked up in prison...seems so real that i cried when i woke up......dreamed also that i was getting married to my officemate...the following morning i don't even want to see his face coz in my mind its so real and that maybe he knew all about it......lol
