Kim Jong-il is possibly one of the most insane leader a country has ever had. He holds little reguard for the fact that Russia, China, Japan & the US has repeatedly condemned the nuclear weapon test. I see no reason for ground troops for now. A blockaid around North Korea would possibly be the best answer for now.

If even half of the horror stories about starvation, concentration camps, human experimentation, etc. are true, then North Korea is the greatest humanitarian tragedy of our times. I don't think North Korea has the logistics for war, so the aim of their weapons programs is mainly to extract more handouts/concessions.

I think the regime could collapse or be overthrown in a coup at any time. The worst thing is that the land there has been basically destroyed-when the place finally does fall apart the people there will have to be supported by the rest of the world indefinitely. IMO that's why China, Japan, the USA, Russia and South Korea seem to be reconciled with living with Dear Leader.
