Yes, I think first cousins should not be together. I don't know if this is still true, but in the olden days when royalty just married each other, there where a lot of retarted children.

Calling the relationship incest is BS; it turns the question into a moral question, and if you want to take the traditional view, the marriage of cousins used to be commonplace and still is throughout the world.
So it's a question of genetics.
It's puts offspring at a higher risk; there's no doubt about that.
But people who make it sound as if you will immediately produce deformed offspring exagerate. How many generations cousins have been inbreeding is part of the question.
And people take far greater risks with their offspring. What about bipolar parents--a well known quality that can be passed down?
Well, I'm bi-polar and I decided not to have children and I get **** from people all the time who think everybody should have children.
Another thing--why does everybody here assume that cousins liking each other means they want to have children together?
I assume like most of the answerers that the question refers to cousins being intimate. But maybe they do and still don't want to procreate together,
Cousins in my family married and I was pretty weirded out at how White Trash we were. But you know, the World Didn't Come to An End.
In sum, even in the USA there are places where first cousins can marry; and through the world it is more commonplace.
In places it is traditional.
But marriage and intimacy is one thing, making babies is another.

In America we're taught to believe that it's wrong because it's associated with incest which leads to retarded children...also that only primitive people who live in isolated places marry cousins....
Worldwide, it's much more common. Twenty percent of all married couples are cousins. In some Middle Eastern countries, almost half of all marriages are to cousins.
And consider this — Albert Einstein's parents were cousins, and he married his cousin, too.
FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt were second cousins, so were Prince Albert and Queen Victoria and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was briefly married to a second cousin.
In America, marrying your cousin is legal in 25 states and every year about 200,000 cousins wed.
I think most people think it's wrong because it's a form in inbreeding.....
I however....I still find the creepy factor of cousins marrying each other is kind of gross...

Liking each other is fine, and very common. Marrying one is another thing. It is only wrong because it might produce brain damage in your children. Long ago, cousins did marry cousins which was considered inbreeding and still is called that. If the cousin is your third cousin, the danger is not so significant. I adored my cousin and always wished that he was not my cousin.

How small is your community? Reach out beyond your family this is how the royal families of Europe got screwed up! Also who ever chimed in earlier ; Einstein was a player, with several mistresses. Eleanor Roosevelt was bisexual, Franklin's mother had a separate house built on their property ( Hudson River) so she could entertain her friends. Don't fool yourself, check on these facts, young students seldom do!

It is dangerous. The answer about kids having mental and genetic problems is true but that boils down to genetics. You are to closely related so you two share a lot of the same genetic material. If you did have kids...the possibility of the child having a genetic problem is high because it would be easy for them to recieve a recessive genetic disease or illness.
