All of the consumer routers are about equally easy to configure (Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin) Siince your broadband connection is 1.5mb, any router with a built in 10/100 switch is more than capable. Your internet connection doesn't come close to matching the capacity of even a slow 10mb hub/switch.

If you're stuck between two similar models, go with D-Link. Their quality of construction is a bit better. Linksys is the biggest seller but everything is plastic, and from personal experience I've had more Linksys devices die & require replacing than other brands.

These days, you can usually find a router that also handles wireless connections for around $10 more.

Oh! you don't need a router, here's the scoup: routers make the connection available by puping extra amps into your network cards. Simple! this requires two things to make a home-made router.
1) some spare network cables
2) extra power cable

Splice the network cable in half and solder it together with the cables that go to the other computers. 1/2 of the spliced inner wires get soldered to the ground on the power cable, and the other half get soldered to the 120v.
After you have your 'routing cable' done and ready, tape it up and plug er in!

Go linksys for ease of you, Netgear for security. If you are using DSL highspeed be prepared to ask more question on how to set it up.
