Well, for a country that claims to be a champion of democracy and peace it might be that any war against any country is against it's national interest. Where would aggression stop?
And I agree with others that there are very few staunch allies left over for the US after Bomber Bush's presidency.

Um, since when was there an invasion. Don't seem to recall one? But I do recall Isreal invading Palestein and Lebanon. But yes we're good at ignoring the genocide in Darfur and the civil war in The Congo, because we're more interested in Foley's gay affaires.

What brings this question on? The objections to the Iraq war? I don't recall Iraq invading any of our allies being listed as one of the reasons for the war.

Or is this just another huffy conservative response to people who don't agree with the reasons for this war?

I didn't see our government tripping over itself to defend Lebanon from Israel... Despite the fact that Israel was after just ONE person, and killed thousands! Oh, wait, aren't we doing that in Afghanistan?

Oh, we don't need alliances anymore. That's what the UN is for: to arbitrate international conflict. The bullies on the block don't have as much power as they did during the Cold War...
