I think the answer has to be Doyle Brunson in terms of who is the best poker player ever, if you go by his accomplishments and the respect he has in poker world. Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth aren't that far behind him, but Doyle's SuperSystem and SuperSystem 2 books are the closest things to a sacred text on this game. My favorite poker player at the moment is Phil Ivey. I like his cool demeanor and the way he plays the game. I think he will be the greatest poker of alltime when his career is over. I'm also a fan of Gus Hansen as well as Scotty Nguyen and Freddy Deeb. The latter two are great for the game, not only as players, but for the entertainment aspect. They make playing even for serious stakes more fun because they lighten up the atmosphere. I'm not a fan of Phil Hellmuth or Mike Matusow's antics at the poker table, but that's just me. There are people who would enjoy those type of antics.

I think its daniel negranu. he is also my favorite. that guy is just awsome, he always know almost exactly what everone has. A lot of people will probably say Brunson but he won the world series back when there was only like 100 people in the tournament. Negranu would have won it way more than brunson if he played back then.
