I recently got a LG lightscribe dual layer DVD-RW drive from a friend. Ive installed it and it will not read, or write..it doesnt even show up in my computer. Does it have to be set as a slave? Do i need to configure jumpers in the back of the drive?

lol the first thing you're supposed to do before installing a cd/dvd drive is set the jumpers..and if you're using it as a secondary drive then yes the new drive has to be set as a slave. if you want the new one to be the master drive, then do than and then change the jumper settings for the older drive to slave

You may need to configure your jumper settings. If it's in the same IDE cable as your HD then set them both to CS(Cable select) then go to your BIOS and select w/c ones is master or slave. or set you jumpers to Master/Slave then pick auto-detect on your BIOS.

go to pc setup in the 1st loading screen.. hit del.. then locate the selection where they detect the drives.. sometimes you need to detect the drives because not all devices are plug and play..
