They are not misplaced. That statue was done by someone who looked at him while doing it. Tut had a birth defect that made his lips sprout from the wrong place and the statue is a true rendering.

The statues that showed him without pants revealed an even more alarming birth deformity but those sculptors were killed and the statues destroyed so all we know is what is told by the hieroglyphics at his tomb.
