we probably do this because appearance is the first thing that our senses get a hold on; and how they look like make an impression... unless you smell him/her first ;)

People are judged by their appearance because it is human nature, You have to have a starting point.. After you get to know a person and talk to them you will be better able to make a better assessment of them

Because that is how society got it. If you dress dirty or something they think you are poor they don't know if you are just getting off of work or something. And if you wear the hip clothing or have on a suit they automaticlly think you have it going on but that is not always true. Usually the one you is turning your nose up at sometimes turn out to be one of your best friends.

Believe it or not, but your appearance tells a lot about you. Not physical attributes, but the way people carry themself. The type of clothes they wear, or the way they walk. You can tell if someone has confidence by their appearance, or if they're kind of loose. We tend to be more comfortable towards people with clean appearances rather than scruffy or dirty ones.

You can judge a person by their crap-in-the-toilet avatar.
Other than that, you have to be careful how much you judge, but a punk looking person could be partially judged.

Exactly! Why judge a book by it's cover!

Beats me. I grew up with grunge and 'ghettofabulous hiphop clothes'. What guy didn't have ripped jeans that fell off his butt and were held up by a belt or suspenders beneath a 'Go! Canucks! Go!' t-shirt that was older than Bill Clinton's claim that 'oral sex isn't sex.'
