You can import a DVD player without any problem.

In case you are coming yourself, get the DVD player with you. Indian Customs allows you to bring along things worth Rs. 50K without declaring (for personal use). And a DVD player costs less than Rs. 5K in India. So no customs duty.

In case you are ordering; go ahead and use your MasterCard for payment. You do not need any international Debit/Credit Card. It should work in most cases. In case there is a problem call up Card Call centre and find out why you cannot use. In case you do have an International Debit/Credit Card you can always use that. Just remember one thing, when the item comes thru courier, the courier agency may have to cough up a nominal customs duty based on the invoice value - so be prepared to pay some amount more to the courier agency on delivery. However, they will give you a customs receipt for the same.

In case you want an International Card, please call up your banker. They would be more than willing to issue you a International Card; if not change your banker.

Finally, it is perfectly legal to import a DVD player into India. So, dont worry....just go ahead.

No problems importing. However, I would try a DVD player in the U.S. that allows any DVD to play. It called a Mutli-Region DVD player. Some will claim they can play all but only can be set once to the correct region.
