There are NO good online courses because a good TEFL/TESL program includes SUPERVISED TEACHING PRACTICE. They can't supervise your teaching when you're in the USA and they're running their school out of a basement in Bosnia. Trust me, no REPUTABLE school would ever hire a teacher with only an online certificate. You're going to have to bite the bullet and shell out for an in-person course.
Of course, if you have a Bachelor's degree and experience teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language, several Australian universities have reputable distance Master's programs that you can do in two or three years online.
