The shape of a container is often determined by what its contents are!
Because of the chemistry of propane long cylinder shape is used,
butane is stored in a round ball
the oval shape tends to have better structural integrity when hauling oil!

The ship's are made that way to stay more stable in the water.
The Semi-trailers are made that way to keep the fluid level and spread out evenly. On the inside of the tank are "baffles" which slow the movement of the liquid when starting and stopping the truck. Liquid carrying trucks are VERY dangerous as the load will push the truck forward even when it is braking to stop, so NEVER, EVER cut in front of a fuel truck. (Or any large truck)

Tanks can be many shapes, but large tanks tend to be cylindrical, or to have rounded corners, to easier withstand hydraulic pressure of contained liquid.
A sphere is the best shape to use because uniform stresses are generated by the interior pressure. Its one major disadvantage is that it is difficult to mount. The next best shape is a domed cylindrical shape. Not only can it be mounted easily, but it can be made to order.

Well duh! It is shaped as an oval shape because it takes lot of the product and evens the weight on the truck

Try and CONSTRUCT a MODEL and you'll realise => The BASE needs WATER-BOUANCY and the TOP needs to CARRY LOADS. (i hope you are not the LOAD)
