Alot of white people feel uncomfortable around blacks (dont understand why) Maybe because they think that their neighborhood will turn into the "ghetto" or maybe because (lets face it) blacks and whites are , for the most part, different in the way they socially interact. I think that living in an area that is "mixed" is beneficial and has to be done if we ever hope to get rid of racism in this country. People need to live and let live and learn to accept peoples differences....I dont care what color my neighbor is ...as long as they mow the grass, dont sell drugs and mind thier own business ;-)

This is not the case in the neighborhood my mother lives in. My family was the only black family in the neighborhood and we were greeted with cookies and pies. And the neighbors would have parties and invite us. HOWEVER, my mom (I've moved out and married since we moved there 10 years ago) lives in an upper middle class neighborhood. I think people may move in lower class neighborhoods. If the neighborhood is of a certain caliber (expensive homes) there really isn't a way for riff raff (whether they are ghetto blacks or poor white trash) to move in. Maybe it also depends on where you live. My mother lives outside of Philadelphia.

i live in Orlando we are one diverse city all though we have a few neighborhoods that are in need of some positive action for clean ups and extra patrols to keep them safer for the residents . the simple answer why not good or bad < white people > and others<<< worry about property value going down due to the poor state so many black neighborhoods are in . its not that there are racist as much as they are worried about resale value .. I hope one day everyone can see that there really is only one race its called the human race so what if I'm blue your green she is purple hes yellow we all have red in common. peace! oh yeah i think that the reason black folks don't get greeted the same as others is the media and black t.v. shows always hating or busting on whites . its not a fair or level playing field black people hate whites for the atrocities committed a long time ago and whites hate back because they don't know what else to do .. sucks in a big way don't ya think so ?

Actually..you've posted a great question.
It's a question that is sort of rhetorical and really kinda needs no answer--because the answer is just that obvious!!

To Officerdelhi:
I totally disagree with your post.
You sated that the poster should stop generalizing--and that she's just basing things on HER own experiences.
But that's not true.
EVERYONE knows that that's a fact.
NOOOOO it doesn't happen in ALL neighborhoods...but it DOES happen in most neighborhoods.

That's just like racism...NOOOOO it doesn't happen to everyone. But most black people have still experienced racism at some point in their lives -- even in the 21st century folks!

I'm sure it kinda hurts to hear a truth like that--as it stands with the question asked. But the fact of the matter is....it IS a truth.
Racism is still apparent in this world we all live in.
It's not as strong as it used to be WAY back in the day...but it definitely hasn't gone any where!

Even though we've lived together for centuries...White and Black still haven't found a way to COMPLETELY accept one another.

If memory serves me correct...I believe you said that a Black person should go over and greet ther person(s) that are fleeing the neighborhoods.
I honestly don't think that would work in the least bit.
They could care less if you're nice to them. Because Black people are just as nice as any other person.
For SOME people...it all boils down to: "do i really want to stay in this"black neighborhood" or "are my kids going to be safe hanging around these black kids" or "what will my friends/family think of me living around all these black people"

It's still an issue folks!!
It hasn't gone anywhere.

OH YEAH....
LOL...all of this is JUST MY OPINION!!!!
:)

Black people moving into a neighborhood that is predominately white will cause the property values to go down in the neighborhood. Property values go down when a neighborhood is no longer desirable to the top buyers. Property values go down because living in a neighborhood with blacks is not desirable for many whites because they fear the neighborhood has taken a turn for the worst (loud black neighbors, crime, violence, unkempt properties) even with no real evidence of it. They inadvertently cause these things to happen to the neighborhood when the abandon it (white flight). The values of property is lowered and the neighborhood eventually take a turn for the worst (schools deteriorate, businesses leave) as it top investors locate themselves else where.

I understand that is how it is in some places but not where I live. It only depends on if a person is respectable and not skin color. I have wanted to move due to 2 different white families moving in-the black family never caused any problems at all.

I would suspect the reason some do is fear of someone looking different. Also, like Bill Cosby has stated Hollywood needs to clean itself up and quit glorifying gangs in the ghetto. He made his attempt of portraying black people in a different light with the Huckstables.

Although I dont live in USA but I think I can suggest you a few things. Firstly you should not generalise this issue because all people are not the same, its just unfortunate that you had to face the indifference of your neighbours for no apparent reason. Still I feel rather than haveing a pre conceived notion about a particular community, you should try to take initiative to go and mingle with them as you are the one who has shifted there. I am sure you will find people who are more than eager to reciprocate your gesture.

Because some white people are scared and stupid. They think if a lot of black people move into their neighborhood crime will increase. Some white people are just ignorant.

properly, in my case there develop into an exceptionally valid reason. Our associates desperate to pass out of their homestead and hire it out. the hot neighbours, 3 Nigerians, 2 blended race and one white lady, have been heavy drug addicts and sellers. I lost count form of the form of cases the law enforcement officers burst into the area to seek for drugs. An number of quite shady druggies often visited the residence. So I moved out earlier I have been given attacked by potential of a few druggie. i does no longer say that it develop into through there being non-whites contained in the homestead, nevertheless. It develop into under no circumstances a secure ecosystem to be in.

Mostly because statistically they lower the property values and the crime rate increases.

These are just facts. Not trying to start anything.

The fact is people would much rather have gay couples move into the neighborhood. (Property values rise.)
