because we have been taught by our European peopl (spanish included) that dark is bad. Dark is ugly. Black is whack and if it aint white it aint right! This is what has been taught to us from years ago latino and Black alike. This is why the lighter Hispanics tend to think of themselves as better than darker ones. This is why daker hispanics and blacks are angry. We have some type of self hatred from years of being taught this Hog wash. If any Latino from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic or anywhere else in the carribean area, denies there Blackness they are strraight up stupid. We are all intermingled with the indigenous indians of the Islands, the african slaves and the Spanish blood. We all black. Besides Haitti and dominican rep. have nor border seperating them.

I think your question should be," Why don't Dominicans like American black people?".
I think when Dominicans say that they are not black, it really means that they are not African -American that's all. Since black Americans tend to think they are the same as every other person of African heritage and want to lump them together , they ignore the variety of different cultures. Latinos take pride in their culture wherever they be from originally and blacks often want to erase that and want them to feel as insecure.
I am black American and Puerto-Rican, but grew up with my Puerto Rican side more and speaking Spanish. I rememberblack kids at school saying that I "want to be Latina" or trying to be something. Whatever... Pure ignorance.

I'm not even Dominican, but I have met a few and they say they don't dislike African Americans. What they can't stand however is that double standard you people have of trying to force them to renounce their European Ancestry and Indigenous Ancestry and claim their African (black) ancestry only. They'd rather be referred to as mixed since the MAJORITY of the population is anyways. Get over it...

Since many people from these countries descended from African slaves,...A better question would be, "Are non-black Puerto Ricans, Cubans etc, prejudiced against blacks?" The answer is yes. Latin American and Latin Caribbean countries have very distinct class systems. People of unmixed European Spanish blood tend to view themselves as being superior and view the darker skinned population as being lower class. It's unfortunate but true. However, I don't think that the racial divisions are as strong as they are in the U.S.

REAL Africans dont like black peole either and by black people, we are referring to African Americans... Haitians and Jamaicans tend to dislike them also....but of course its Dominicans who get heat from them, why? Because racially we are mulattos and they feel inferior to us.

Why is everyone with blond, why cannot you just have jet black curly hair with some blonde or blonde tresses with some jet black hair. Today you don't have to choose.

No one really knows why anyone dislikes another culture or color.
But, I do know that Dominicans as well as Puerto Ricans are "not" all mixed with black. There are White Dominicans, black Dominicans and there are multi mixed Dominicans. I do not know wether they have any Indian natives on their island as Puerto Rico does but most of the Hispanics on the Islands came from Spain originally. Caucasion/European culture. "During the Slavery days" some mixed with the slaves, many mixed with the Native Indians and some mixed with the French as well. Some stayed true to their culture and never mixed. This is why there has been so much confusion as to what color or culture to classify many Latins. So now they are considered "Hispanic to be more general."
