A counterclaim sentence is made by the defendant to a civil proceeding, in a main actions against the plaintiff or against the plaintiff and other persons. This claim is done in an attempt to offset or reduce the amount/implications of the plaintiff's original claim against the defendant.
A counterclaim sentence is a claim made to offset another claim, esp. one made by the defendant in a legal action.

a counterclaim is what it sounds like...
eg. say according to the cat, the dog is evil
the dog can make a counterclaim saying that the cat is evil rather than saying he is not evil.
it is like a claim in defence that is offensive
all i know about counterclaims are to do with law...
