well according to the official geek test, the ratio of guy geeks to girl geeks is 10 to 1. It's not as though we don't like the idea of there being girl comic fans, on the contrary we wish there were more! It's just that female comic fans are so uncommon that we don't know how to react to it.
There's also the question of why she's interested in comics. Most girls don't like things like that, so guys are often confused as to why a girl would like them since they most likely have little experience with women. (again, it's not as though they consider it a bad thing, it's just something they've never encountered before)

From August 1986 to December 2001 I had a comic shop store front (we went mail order only after that), and honestly, it was a mystery even to us. I think a lot of it has to do with there really is just a smaller population of them. We tried very hard to have a female friendly shop, but we could never get a customer situation over 10% female. They're just simply aren't that many subjects that interest most female. Now, there has been an upswing in the past few years with the introduction of more female friendly manga, but they are still greatly outnumbered.
In Japan though there are entire comic shops dedicated to catering to female manga readers. I accidentally wandered in to one once...as a 6'4" caucasian man...I was a bit of an oddity *cough*.

I don't know. Are these the same men who think it is weird for a girl to own a PS2, play D&D and love on online RPGs?
