If your water company has been doing any pump work and increased the delivery pressure to your house, you may need a pressure reducing valve...the higher pressure will make pipes clunk or bang....especially the valves in toilets. You may put a pressure gauge on a spigot outside and see if it's over 60....which is pretty high pressure for residential water lines.

could be that & amongst other things, including if it a relively new house, the anti - siphon / back flow preventer valves on the exterior hose bibs!

sounds like you got air in the water line. this makes a terrible racket until the air is purged from system
