Among his other achievements Napoleon Bonaparte brushed his teeth frequently without using toothpaste, which had not been invented. He kept most of his teeth until he died, which was a lot more than many other people did in those days. So strictly speaking toothpaste does not seem to be necessary. I've been told that brushing actually does about 95% of the job. Some modern toothpastes are formulated more for appearance on the brush than being of great use. If you want an effective toothpaste, avoid the transparent ones.

You can wash your hair without shampoos and conditioners too. In fact some people actually recommend that you never use shampoos! Some say that shampoo actually causes dandruff. Fact is shampoos and conditioners did not exist until the 1950s and people got on without them just fine. In my opinion they are a means of separating you from your hard earned and that's about all.

The toothpaste industry is a well oiled machine and of course people are brainwashed to say no, and look at you in shock for even asking the question.
The first thing that comes to mind is Can you take a bath without soap? wash your hair without shampoo? Do laundry with only water?
I would say, yes its doable. Mere mechanical brushing will remove only portions of plaque. . You need the powdered grit they have in the toothpaste to provide the extra polishing of your pearly whites. If the reason for not using toothpaste is having no money to buy toothpaste, what about using baking soda instead? salt? Soap? Those might help improve the cleaning.
PS.Dont forget the flossing.

the a number of canines toothpaste you could purchase is activated through the canines's saliva - so it would not truly count number if his teeth do not all get brushed - in simple terms having the toothpaste in his mouth will be of earnings. If he hates the toothbrush, have you ever tried between the finger brushes - they appear to be a spiky thimble and may want to correctly be a lot less complicated to manouver round a reluctant canines's mouth! that's likewise a good idea to comb teeth in simple terms earlier you feed your canines - they are going to commence to associate brushing with nutrition after, and this can make it extra satisfying for them.

While you may loosen food that becomes stuck in your teeth, brushing without toothpaste doesn't get the job done effectively. Toothpaste contains ingredients that fight cavities and can prevent gum disease.

My vote is no, or at least not regularly. Okay, if you're roughing it on a camping trip and you forgot toothpaste, yeah. But toothpaste fights bad breath because it kills bacteria in your mouth and prevents decay. Definitely toothpaste is a necessity.

well, I do it sometimes, but I get the feeling it's kind of like washing your hands without soap. You might get some of the dirt off, but soap works so much better.
