does velocity effect what angle one should use? Is a javelin a different angle than a shot put or a rifle or a bow and arrow?

45 degrees... if it's greater the horizontal component of your velocity will be too small and it will go high, but not cover very much distance... if it's less, the vertical component of your velocity will be too small and gravity will cause it to fall down faster... 45 degrees is the compromise between these two and it will give you the greatest range for any initial velocity, assuming negligible air resistance

if you're shooting an object that has a high susceptibility to air resistance, an angle slightly below 45 degrees will be optimal because you're aiming for the horizontal and vertical components of your velocity to be equal, and air resistance will decrease your horizontal velocity (the greater the air resistance on the object, the farther below 45 you have to go)

Neglecting any resistances, 45 degrees is the optimal angle for obtaining a maximum range. Do some plug 'n chug with the trig and it's easily proven

This website, courtesy of Georgia State, does a great tutorial:

When you neglect resistance, whether it's a javelin or a kitten is irrelevant. It's like the example of dropping a hammer and a feather together in a vaccuum; they fall at the same speed.

When you add is air resistance, however, the optimal angle for maximum range is around 37 degrees. This I remember from Physics 101, and it's been a while since I did that proof.

And when you include the losses, a javelin will go a lot further than a kitten. This is when aerodynamics and weight-to-mass ratios come into play.

i would have thought 45 but i tried to calculate it and it seems a lower angle seems more optimal. obviously for a javelin you have to calculate whether it will stick into the ground.

45 Degree's is the best angle to make any object go farthest.

do not blame conservatives. I stay close to Pittsburgh. quite a few years in the past, the Democrat controlled city and the Democrat controlled county, alongside with a Democrat state governor have been given federal investment to put in a tunnel under the Allegheny River to take commuters from downtown to a on line casino. the full length is under 2 miles. the unique cost became $550 million. genuine now, the cost is as much as $a million billion and it remains not completed. Democrat Byrd delivered hundreds of thousands of beef barrel initiatives to W VA while he became alive and a senator. Jack Murtha Democrat, PA delivered hundreds of thousands of federal money to his fatherland, Johnstown, while he became alive. they have a federally funded air port. 3 commercial flights in keeping with day bypass from Johnstown to Washington, DC. i ought to bypass on.
