My husbands daughter comes on alternate weekends, she is only 3 years old and we have to treat and clean her head of lice on numerous occasions upon arrival. Yes the mother is notified each and every time. One of my concerns is that she has bites all over her scalp. Can this make her ill?

Before she enters our house when she is dropped off she is checked by either myself or husband. Treatment of her head is done with lice shampoo as well as combing through until all is gone. My husband gave the ex all the info she needs to clean the house, clothing and the other children in her house. We have taken her to the docs and it has been documented, but yes maybe its time to bring in the chilrens protection agency, the neglect is not benefiting the child by any means. Thanks for those who responded.

if it goes on long enough she could get anemic.

It's me again! lol! You need to call child protection and get a track record going along with all the other things. Yes, it can make her sick if it is ongoing. Someone is not doing their job as far as taking care of the lice and then repeating the whole thing over again 5-7 days later. The problem with her going back and forth between homes is that she could be spreading it in both homes. You have to clean and wash your whole house every time she has them, so I would suggest you check her before she comes in the house. If it's at night then use a flash light to see the lice and the eggs shine in bright light ( sun light is better). Have a bottle of RID available and try to treat her asap. If this is ongoing as you say then the mother needs an education and the best way is child protection services. Don't mess around with it. Mommy sounds lazy!

If she has bites and you have contacted her mother, then you should contact the child protection agency where you live. This is considered child abuse in some states.

Not only is this very uncomfortable for the child, it is extremely contagious. If her mother won't treat the entire house where the child lives, then she will just keep getting it.

You might also check with the child's doctor. Using the lice shampoo for an extended time is not good for the child because it is a harsh chemical. The doctor might be able to give you alternative medications/treatments.

Also be sure you treat YOUR house and yourselves as well, as it can spread to you very easily.
