Call them on something they get wrong. They can't say you were being rude if you correct their erroneous belief that Christopher Columbus discovered America (or whatever they believe they are the expert on) by citing cold, hard fact.

Tell it like it is, but nicely. If that person is your friend, he or she might get hurt, but if is truly your friend he or she will know that you said that because you are their friend and want’s the best for them. If it isn’t a friend ignore him or her. But never be rude. Hope its helps.

i used to be very well mannered and appealing with waiters and waitresses alike, in spite of if it continuously made my lady pal/spouse mad by way of fact she thought i became flirting. So now I in simple terms smile and say thank you.
