Most of the women brought to Iceland were hand picked from all over Northern Europe by the Vikings and carried off. That's why they say that Icelandic women are the most beautiful in the world. Their ancestors were chosen for their beauty. Just a story. But the Vikings did rape. So did the Romans. Most cultures did.

Vikings became Vikings because, in Viking culture, the father left all of his wealth to th eoldest son. The younger sons had no choice but to seek their wealth else where.

The standard operating procedure of a marauding Viking force was to kill all of the men and male children so that they could not grow up to be their enemies. Many Viking leaders would post the heads of the men they killed on staffs around their huts. They would rape and subjigate the women for pleasure and to have little Viking children who would grow up to be loyal Viking warriors.

After a while, the remaining locals would begin to establish trade with the outposts that the Vikings established. They followed these procedures as far south as Bagdad and into Russia setting up the first trade routes. They established Dublin in Ireland but the Island was too poor to hold their interest.

Every clan or creed, the Vikings, the Huns, the Mongols, they all raped and pillaged. When they took a city, castle or whatever, the put the men to the sword and took the women as concubine. And when you see the logic that the life expectancy and the infant mortality rate was a lot worse than now. Having many children not only kept your village, clan, tribe populated. It also replenished the ranks of future warriors. I believe even the Romans did their fair while expanding their empire.

Like many conquering armies both in history and today the vikings would have raped on occasion as a form of subjugating those that they overcame. They also took both men and women as slaves (sexual or otherwise). It is thought that armies raped those they overcame in order to humiliate and shame the losing side.

Unfortunately, rape was a common occurrance when one tribe, culture, whatever conquered another. It's just a way of humiliating the men of the losing side. Imagine how completely helpless you would feel if you couldn't save the women of your community after just having been beat by some other group.

Rape also forced the conquered civilization to assimilate with the conquerers by making the women bare the children of the conquerers creating a new generation of mixed heritage folks.

It is true. They raped to satisfy sexual emotions. And now and again, a bad viking would stuff his sausage into the brown eye of an enemy male.

Yes , they were raiders .Why did they rape ?I think that is obvious .Women only ?I don't honestly know but certainly not improbable. Favourite targets were churches and monastery's due to the fact that items of gold could be found .
