double check with your ped that it is in fact "colic". it could very well be reflux. my baby started at 3 weeks. the docs kept passing it off as colic since he was gaining weight and not spitting up much (a silent refluxer). excessive spitting up is a sure sign for reflux, and a lot of gas. anyhow, turns out my baby had a milk allergy as well as reflux. i refused to listen to them and kept taking him back til they fixed him....follow your instinct, i knew it was not colic...don't be afraid to fight for your baby.
i stopped nursing and changed formula from regular, to soy, to 100% hypo-allergenic. he was also put on 2 different reflux meds before we found the magic combination.
when i would try to feed him he would act like he was hungry and start eating...but a few minutes later he'd arch his back and start screaming unconsolably, and pass a ton of gas.
we tried gripe water, and gas drops...which seemed to help some at first, maybe you could try those. but it seems to me it's not colic that your baby has. colic is usually inconsolable crying for a few hours a day, often the same time everyday--not all day long with a bunch of spit up. if i were you i'd take him in and insist they check for it or begin treating it as such and see if it makes a difference. reflux is very painful, and the longer you let it go the worse it gets.
my sisters nephew in law cried 24/7 literally for 4 months when he was a baby because he reflux was so bad and they didn't know. if you treat it you should at least see an improvement likely the same day or next, which should reaffirm that it is reflux.
if all else fails and your peds refuse to consider a reflux possiblility, take him to a ped. gastroenterologist specialist. also without hisitation try putting him on soy to see if that helps too.
i'd bet a good amount of money it's reflux not colic...sounds just like my lil peanut, less the spitting up.
good luck, i hope it all works out soon for you....if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to email me!

Colic is a symptom of another condtion, such as allergies intolerences or reflux.
You should talk to your childs ped.
Is your baby coughing a lot? Spitting up a lot? Having stuffy noses? Breathing difficulties? Ezema? Different bowel movements? Those are all symptoms of reflux and allergies.
You can use mylocon drops in the mean time. And carnation good start without dha ara is great for babys who don't digest the others well. My first son used carnation good start, my second is a reflux baby with allergies and is on a prescription formula called ellecare we have tried all the other formulas.
Good luck, please go to the ped doc about this

It does sound like the formula and the bottle that you are using. Get a Dr. Brown bottle, or a Parents Choice bottle and make sure to use the stage one nipples on these. If you are using formula I would try changing it to something else. My son had real good luck with the Nestle Good Start. Try to stay away from the regular soy stuff. If you have to use the soy stuff try to get the organic kind. I'm not sure if it is safer to use, but it might be. Try using Hyland's Colic Tablets.

hi there, a crying baby is horrid, when my second suffered from colic, bumpy gravel roads either in the car or pram helped heaps and for some unknown reason so did walking up and down steps hope your bub gets well and be assured they do usually grow out of colic at about 3 months good luck
hi again if your little one is spiting up a bit have you considered that it could be reflux, reflux causes a lot of pain for bubs and the crying generally gets worse in the arvo/night when they have been chucking all day- after every feed. go and see your peed and if it is reflux, there are many natural thickening agents that work great

Ohhhhh. I've been through this, too. It's terrible, isn't it? You want to comfort your child, but you want to get some sleep yourself, too. The thing to keep in mind is that colic passes in a few weeks or months. Meantime, you need to try to get your child comfortable. The things that worked best for us:
Warmth on his tummy (hold him against your belly) or rub his tummy gently with your palm. Rocking, walking, We switched to a soy bean formula. And, when all else fails, ask the pediatrician for some medicine that will help.

I have three kids....2 of which are twins. My oldest baby had colic real bad. I use to "warm" a wet washcloth, lay my baby's stomach on top of it, and gently rub her back. All the while doing this, I would hum "Rock of Ages." She loved the warm feeling, it calmed her down; not to mention helped with digestion. They always had sensitive tummies. I hope you find something that works well for your baby. Hang in there! :)

Can you descibe his/her colic a little more? Is it at a certain time, does it happen after a feeding? Are you breastfeeding or formula? How is his/her sleep going?
With your additional information, it sounds like it could possibly be reflux, or that you need to switch formula. Talk to the pediatrician to see what can be done to help.

You could talk to your doctor about switching formulas. there is a formula by Enfamil called Nutramagin. It is for children who have allergies to cow milk protiens. This can cause gas, spit-ups, rash where the milk touches on the face neck and chest. All of which causes exsessive crying. Nutramagin helps with all these symptoms.

Hi Janelle_n.
My Grandmother ( passed away) told me to put a peppermint candy in warm water in the bottle (test to make sure it's
warm & not to hot) then feed this to my son/daughter worked everytime then pat gently on their back. My Mother had me get peppermint oil from the drug store use a tooth pick and add a drop into bottle with warm water this works just as good. Good luck & have a good day

Have you tried Gripe water? It's a mixture of sodium biocarbonate, water and dill weed--it dissolves gas in his system.
A lot of times babies colic is because they have air bubble trapped in their intestines from feeding, and it makes them VERY uncomfortable. Your son sounds a lot like my six week old daughter but I find this stuff helped a lot.
